This bulletin provides more detailed analysis of the police recorded road casualties data originally released as part of the Road collisions 2024 output published on 19 November 2024.
Key points
- In 2024 there were 4,005 road casualties reported by police forces in Wales, an decrease of 7.9% compared to 2023 and a decrease of 31% compared to 2019 (prior to the COVID-19 pandemic).
Of these casualties:
- 84 were fatal (2%).
- 1,007 people were seriously injured (25%).
- 1,091 (27%) were killed or seriously injured (KSI).
- 2,914 (73%) had slight injuries.

Overall, in 2024 police in Wales reported a total of 2,917 road collisions, a decrease of 10.6% compared to 2023 and 32.6% lower than in 2019 (prior to the COVID pandemic).
