Work has begun on significant improvements that will make it easier for people to walk and cycle safely in the Ffordd Penrhos area near Bangor.
Having secured £1.2 million of Active Travel support from the Welsh Government, Cyngor Gwynedd has collaborated with Transport for Wales to develop the plans. The current work is part of the first phase of improvements from the Coed Mawr area to Coed y Maes in Penrhosgarnedd.
Ffordd Penrhos connects residential areas with schools, travel centres, the hospital and employment areas. The aim of the work will be to provide a safe means of travel as people travel to school, work and leisure in the area.

In total, officers arrested 151 people on suspicion of driving while under the influence on Gwent roads; 81 people on suspicion of drug-driving and 70 people on suspicion of drink-driving.
A further 14 people were arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen after they were stopped by officers.

A joint operation by South Wales Police and Swansea Council’s Taxi Licensing Division inspected the roadworthiness of taxis and taxi drivers in Swansea.
The operation, which took place on the evening of Friday 15th December, saw marked Police vehicles patrolling Swansea city centre and taking taxis to an inspection point, where they were checked for defects. Taxi drivers’ licences were also checked, alongside numerous other checks using Police systems. These checks were conducted by both Police and Council staff.
During the operation, fourteen vehicles, including eleven taxis and three private hire vehicles, were subject to inspection. Of these, three vehicles were immediately suspended from road use:
