Leading up to the summer holidays, Road Safety Wales shared information to highlight the law surrounding e-bikes and e-scooters with secondary schools, colleges and organisations working with young people.
Some people may have innocently purchased an e-bike or e-scooter, unaware that they could be breaking the law when riding it and putting members of the public at risk of being injured if they are involved in a collision.
The Road Safety Wales partnership developed a bilingual information sheet and short educational films, with the assistance of the road safety team at Carmarthenshire County Council.

North Wales Police officers from the Roads Crime Unit visited a motorcycle safety course at Rhyl Fire Station on Saturday to show their support.
Biker Down! Cymru is a free course, taught only by emergency service professionals on how to keep an injured motorcyclist alive until the ambulance arrives.
It was created by Jim Sanderson from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and is taught all over the UK by emergency service personnel who are dedicated to saving the lives of others and helping the public to know what to do should they arrive at the scene of a motorcycle collision.

The road safety team at Carmarthenshire County Council’s recently partnered with Smyths Toys in Llanelli to host a FREE Child Car Seat Safety Check Clinic.
The event in Llanelli found that 12 of the 21 seats checked needed adjustment, with 7 of these requiring a major adjustment.
Children must use a child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. It is essential to ensure that a child car seat is suitable for the vehicle, appropriate for the child using it and is fitted securely. The free service offered in Carmarthenshire aims to provide peace of mind to parents, guardians and those responsible for taking children in their vehicles.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Road Safety department is offering free monthly mature driver courses for residents aged 65 plus.
The course, held at Haverfordwest Fire Station, includes a classroom based morning and a practical driving session with an approved instructor to help address any personal concerns drivers have now and for the future.
In the classroom attendees will hold informal discussions, watch safety films and refresh their knowledge of the Highway Code and its updates, a great chance to highlight any bad driving habits developed over the years and help keep people driving safer for longer.

An operation aimed at targeting those who commit offences on the roads across Gwynedd South saw several tickets being issued to motorists last month.
During July, North Wales Police officers took part in Operation Clench and several motorists were found to be committing driving offences including driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs or driving without a valid licence.

An EV charging public network has reached its first anniversary by providing thousands of green miles for motorists to travel around Denbighshire.
Since launching officially last summer, Denbighshire County Council’s network of public EV chargers located at all towns have provided 239,146kwh of charging for motorists using the facilities.
That’s the equivalent of 837,000 miles of greener lower carbon travelling delivered by the network, nearly 34 times travelling around the circumference of the earth.

More than 20 traffic offence reports were detected by officers using an unmarked HGV last week on the motorway through Gwent.
Five people using their mobile phones at the wheel and four driving without due care and attention were among the motorists caught by officers during a weeklong M4 road safety operation.
As part of the national Operation Timeline initiative, drivers who were spotted committing an offence from an elevated position in an unmarked HGV on loan from National Highways, were later stopped by a support vehicle.

The Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme (SHARP) is a motorcycle helmet safety consumer information scheme launched by the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) in 2007, following research by TRL revealing the differences in the safety performance of motorcycle helmets available in Great Britain.
The SHARP scheme promotes the importance of motorcycle helmets and advises on their correct fitment, while providing an independent objective assessment of the level of impact safety protection that a helmet model would provide the wearer during a collision.
As a consumer information scheme, it is important that SHARP understands and meets the needs of the motorcyclists that will use it. The SHARP survey aims to gather insights into your riding and helmet purchase behaviour and your understanding and use of the SHARP scheme as a rider in the UK.
