I am publishing our updated Active Travel Act Guidance for public consultation. We are revising this guidance to improve the quality of walking, wheeling and cycling schemes, ensure that they are accessible and designed with inclusion at their core.

Our approach in updating the guidance aligns with my ambitions set out in “Travel for All”, aiming to make it easier for more people to use our transport network. The draft revised guidance reflects feedback that we gathered from users of the current guidance, new evidence, as well as policy and regulatory changes since its original publication.

Before making a purchase remember, in Wales e-scooters can only be ridden legally on private land with the landowner’s permission.

Rhys John-Howes, Chair of Road Safety Wales explains “Riding an e-scooter on the highway, pavement, or on cycle lanes in Wales is illegal. There are no rental schemes operating in Wales, so anyone using an e-scooter in this way is breaking the law.

Vale of Glamorgan Active Travel Network Map Consultation

The Active Travel Network Map (ATNM) Consultation will run through 2025 and 2026, aiming to provide the Vale of Glamorgan with a network that allows for walking, wheeling and cycling to become the most natural and normal way of getting about for local journeys. And, by doing so, to promote the health and well-being of everyone and to make our towns and villages more liveable places.

Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, all local authorities in Wales must regularly review and improve their walking, wheeling and cycling routes. The current map was approved by the Welsh Government in August 2022, and now it’s time to reflect the changes and improvements made over the past three years.

New camera enforcement car

A new camera enforcement car will take to the streets of Torfaen to help improve road safety from this week. The vehicle will be fitted with CCTV to record footage of any cars parked illegally outside schools, in bus stops or on zig zag lines.

A two-week notice period starts on Monday November 3, when any drivers caught parked illegally will be issued with a written warning. From Monday November 17, drivers found to be parked in excluded areas will be automatically sent a penalty charge notice.

Cllr Mandy Owen, Executive Member for the Environment, said: "We regularly get complaints from schools about illegal parking that posed a serious risk to pupils. While our civil enforcement officers regularly visit schools motorists often move on when they see them.
