Plans to cut school crossing patrols at nine school sites across the Caerphilly county borough have been withdrawn following consideration of feedback from the community.

Phase 1 of the ‘Waunfawr to IBERS Active Travel Link’ was completed in April 2024 and construction work is currently underway on next phases of the scheme.
A section of new shared use path adjacent to the TRA487 is scheduled for completion in April, with delivery of this section led by the North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent on behalf of the Welsh Government. The next section from Dorglwyd Junction up to the bus stop next to Brongwinau Estate is programmed for construction work in the next financial year and once connected this will complete Phases 1 and 2 of the scheme. Shared use paths provide dedicated and safer provision for cyclists and pedestrians to make active travel journeys.
Construction work for the new shared use path is also currently underway near IBERS crossroads which forms one of the sections of Phase 3. A grant funding application has been submitted to Transport for Wales for another section within Phase 3 and if successful, construction work will also commence here next financial year.

Flintshire County Council has secured Welsh Government funding to deliver significant active travel and sustainable travel improvements in Aston and Hawarden.
The upcoming scheme will enhance connectivity along Lower Aston Hall Lane, providing a shared-use off-road footway/cycleway facility. This will link with the recently completed Aston Hill/A494 shared-use path, providing a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, the project will deliver a new zebra crossing and essential carriageway improvements which will further support safe and sustainable travel.
The work on Lower Aston Hall Lane has now begun and will last approximately 10 weeks. Traffic management measures will be in place throughout the construction period, with access maintained for residents, local businesses, and the travelling public. Flintshire County Council appreciates the continued cooperation and support of the local community during these essential works, which will deliver long-term benefits for all.
