Millions set to be invested in transport schemes in Swansea

A brand new riverside walkway for pedestrians and cyclists is set to be developed as part of multi million transport investment in Swansea

The Tawe riverside plans are part of a multi-million pound transport funding package which will help create new transport routes, improve road safety, improve public transport links as well as boost infrastructure for electric vehicles and develop flood prevention schemes on roads that regularly suffer from isolated flooding.

£6.7million will be invested in Swansea in 2026/27 with further funding secured for the following two years. One of the main schemes to benefit from the investment will be the development of a brand new Tawe Riverside Path and will feature a purpose-built walking and cycling route along a mile long section of the riverside between the city centre and the Swansea.com Stadium.

New Secure Bikehangars to Be Installed in Wards Across Cardiff

Seventeen new bikehangars will be installed across Cardiff to help residents securely park their bikes without having to bring them into their homes.

The hangars, each providing space for six bikes while taking up only half a car parking bay, will be installed on residential streets in Canton, Riverside, Plasnewydd, Cathays and Splott later this month. The scheme aims to make cycle parking more convenient and secure, so residents can access their bikes more easily, to encourage people to cycle, instead of using their private car.

Following consultation with residents in August 2025, 17 locations were identified from an initial list of 50 potential sites. Further engagement took place between December 2024 and January 2025, allowing residents to raise questions and concerns, which have now been addressed. A decision has been taken to proceed with the first phase of the scheme.

Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, all local authorities in Wales must regularly review and improve their walking, wheeling and cycling routes. The current map was approved by the Welsh Government in August 2022, and now it’s time to reflect the changes and improvements made over the past three years.
