Pupils Take Part In Walk To School Week
Schoolchildren in Wales will be putting their best forward in the annual Walk to School week. (18-22 May, 2026).
The national campaign is supported by Local Authority Road Safety Teams and aims to increase number of children who walk, wheel or cycle to school.
Walking to school helps children keep healthy and happy and get ready to learn, as well as reducing pollution and congestion outside schools. It would be ideal if the enthusiasm can be maintained, and pupils and their families continue to walk to school whenever they can.
Walking to school benefits pupils, parents, the school and the local community:
- It develops pedestrian and road safety skills
- Reduces congestion around the school gates
- Saves time - it’s often quicker to walk than to sit in traffic
- Pupils arrive at school more alert and on time
- Reduced car emissions means improved air quality
- It promotes moderate physical exercise.
